James 1:3-4 New International Version (NIV)3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
We as adults have had many experiences that have led us to be able to handle many things that at one time would of devastated us. Our students are not in the same place, they face many things that we may not have had to endure. For me I have to realize that my students may need for me to simply listen to them... They may not need my advice. They may only need for me to pray for them and show them that I care about them. Patience is a hard thing to learn... It can really hurt... I have found that God doesn't always allow us to know the end of the story. Sometimes we need to understand that we are not to fix everything for our students, we need to allow them to grow in a good way to overcome their obstacles on their own. When we learn to deal with something we grow in a good and positive way. We use those lessons to help others someday.
The following song spoke to me one day when I was struggling...
We need to simply show God's love to our students when they are hurting, and needing to hear someone speak hope, speak love...
Dear Lord, please help us to be mindful of the words we speak to our students each day. Thank you for your guidance with each one of them. Please work through us to help them grow into a healthy and happy adult! In Jesus name, Amen
